In an article for allAfrica Lola Okulo pointed out that in Kenya Bankers have established a mediation centre to help reduce the number of court cases and save time and money spent on settling disputes.

This interesting pilot project was established by Barclays, Equity, Family, Gulf and Housing Finance. They are the first lenders to sign up in this project. The centre will be housed at Strathmore Law School and the pilot phase will run for six months before more banks are brought in. It would be interesting to learn how it works in practice and if there are any experiences in other countries too. Is anybody involved in mediating conflicts arising in the financial sector?
